My experience with the practicum was extremely rewarding and can easily be applied to my academic career moving forward. I have gained the skills to undertake a large research project that spans a whole semester. In my past I have never committed this much time to a specific research question and learned so much about a topic. I am grateful for the Scholars program for offering me this opportunity.
In the rest of my time at the University of Maryland I plan to refine my classes to mostly Psychology courses as I will declare after this semester. I can use concepts from Media over the last two years to help me on my way. I have taken courses in social psychology already that have been very interesting to me. In addition I will be declaring Statistics as a minor and will continue to take classes in that field as well. I began at Maryland as a Mathematics major so math has always been a passion of mine and I am excited to center that passion around statistics.
After I graduate the most likely course of action for me is to become an RA (Research Assistant). Over this past winter break I shadowed two RA's that worked for Children's Hospital in the labs of Dr. Michelle Bosquet and Dr. Heidi Ellis. I was able to see the work that they did and it seemed like something I was interested in. After that the most common track is back to school for some higher education.
