About
For my practicum I enrolled in the Discovery Research class taught by Dr. Eubanks. For our yearlong project we delved into a project of our choice and spent the semester researching and studying that topic. I chose to explore the topic of head trauma in the NFL and the danger of CTE. Due to COVID-19 we were not able to show of our posters at the Academic Showcase so instead we create a powerpoint presentation of our finding, below is an example slide.
I learned how to take advantage of all of the resources around me and use them to my advantage. I was able to go into the UMD Archives and access some information that helped center my research and point me in the right direction. I also gained skills in giving and receiving feedback, due to the length of this project there were numerous opportunities to get and give outside opinions on the work getting done. So naturally I feel as though I improved in that area thanks to this class.
This research project definitely made me grow as a professional because it forced me to step outside of my comfort zone. I had to be creative with my research methods in order to find the most relevant information for my topic. I also had to practice writing literature reviews as well as a prospectus, and also participated in helpful peer review workshops.
